Happy Chinese New Year
By: Stephanie Diaz
Fireworks, decorations, traditional dances, and family gatherings. I think it's a Chinese New Year! Mrs. Johnson and her third grade class at Cape Coral Charter School gathered together to celebrate the Chinese New Year. To celebrate they paraded through the hallways with traditional dragon costumes and Chinese outfits. "We decided to celebrate The Chinese New Year to show respect to other cultures and to experience other cultures" explains Mrs. Johnson. "My class enjoyed learning about different cultures."
Mrs. Johnson's third grade class learned a lot from this experience. Shane Romero, a student in Mrs. Johnson's class, explained what he learned.
"I learned about calligraphy," Shane said. "I found out it's an art and I also learned how to hold the brush." Shane said that his favorite part about this celebration was learning about another culture. Mrs. Johnson's class exclaimed that they all enjoyed celebrating the Chinese New Year and they would do it again if they could.
Mrs. Johnson's third grade not only got to celebrate this cultural holiday but shared it with the rest of Cape Coral Charter School. We all enjoyed the Chinese New Year and maybe you can celebrate it along with us the next time it comes around.
Fall Festival Parade of Characters
Fall Festival Parade of Characters took place on Wednesday, October 31. All Pre-K-2nd grade students dressed up as book characters and marched in the 4th Annual Parade. This event drew crowds of parents and older grade level students.
Celebrity Chef Visits Cape Coral
Celebrity Chef Jason Robert from Australia visited our school today. He taught the students how to cook some delicious gulf shrimp. Also, he shared free piggy banks with a Kindergarten and First Grade classroom with thanks going to Key Bank. The bank also donated a $1 gold coin to each of those students. Chef Jason Roberts donated one of his autographed cookbooks to our library after teaching students how to draw a kangaroo! He told us he actually had one as a pet when he was a child. Finally, the first grade students in Mrs. Scillieri's class presented him with FLAT STANLEY to travel all the way back to Australia with. Jason promises to send us back some photos of FLAT STANLEY traveling around the countryside!
Holiday Banner
Kindergarten students at CCCS created a huge holiday banner to be displayed on a mobile advertising billboard before it is shipped overseas for our military men and woman who are far away from home at this time of year. Hockey players from the Florida Everblades joined the students in celebrating the event!
Bobcat Broadcasting
Bobcat Broadcasting hosts a Morning Show each day at 8:30am to provide students and teachers with our daily news. Bob the bobcat (school mascot) appears each morning as a special guest. The middle school students organize and produce the program each day.
Columbus Day Parade
CCS students and families marched proudly in the Columbus Day Parade on Saturday, October 6 along with our own "ship". Main Street was full of Cape Coral Charter School spirit with more than 150 marchers!
